SUMMARY:Motivating Desires And Problem Solving: Lisa Warner & Roberta Schorr
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nEarlier research uncovers a multitude of “in the in-the-moment” motivating desires that accompany mathematical problem solving. These motivating desires evoke differing patterns of engagement and social interaction. In this presentation\, we share our most current data (survey\, individual interview\, and focus group techniques) involving prospective K-6 teachers’ motivating desires as they work in groups to solve mathematical problems.

SUMMARY:Visualization Strategy To Develop Multiplication Fact Fluency: Makoto Yoshida & Mary Leer
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nLooking for ways to help students master multiplication facts\, so they do not rely on repeated addition or skip counting? Learn visualization strategies that use arrays and properties of multiplication to help students learn their facts with conceptual understanding. The how-to’s of monitoring and assessing fluency will also be discussed.

SUMMARY:Using “Cool Problems” To Explore Limits Of Sequences: Tom Beatini
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nDo sequences have to end? Let’s explore some “cool problems” where sequences model real-world phenomena. See how technology connects algebraic representations\, promotes algebraic thinking and a deeper understanding of sequences and limits to help students move from algebra to calculus.

SUMMARY:Leveraging Student Errors: JoAnna Castellano
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nUtilizing student work live in class to leverage an error shows students that they can critique each other’s work in a safe\, learning environment. Student can learn more from their errors than from listening to someone else’s lecturing of information.

SUMMARY:Virtual Learning in a Non-Virtual World: Bringing the community and the classroom together: Jimmy Wares & Robyn Poulsen
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nWith everything that teachers have gone through\, what happens when the world goes back to the classroom full-time … stay virtual! Yes! Keep it going and bring the world to them! With the experience that we have gained teaching virtually\, we will discuss how we can use what we now know and head out to the real world on a regular basis. For example\, teaching remotely has given me the opportunity to teach once a week from my woodshop AND stay on track with the curriculum. Why stop when I go back full time\, when instead of finding the cost of watermelons and cantaloupe\, I can compare the cost of using Red Oak vs. White Oak for my next project. With limitations on traveling and finances for field trips\, take the trip yourself\, teach\, make connections to your curriculum and make math meaningful.
