DESCRIPTION:Data literacy is not only a mathematical concept\, but a necessary life skill. Students need to learn what the data tells them and what questions to ask in order to build the foundations for a later understanding of statistics. Informed citizens are flooded with data at every turn\, making data literacy vitally important. Building an understanding of data can be built throughout the school year by building on students’ curiosity and developing a culture of drawing conclusions from data.Teachers will learn how to build visual displays to organize data and guide students’ questions. Data literacy standards in grades 2- 5 are scheduled for implementation in the Fall of 2025.  \nThe cost of each One-Day Workshop is $149 for members. DESCRIPTION:Making Meaning of Fractions: Grades 2-6\nPresenter: Cheryl Fricchione \nFractions … just the word tends to cause strong reactions from students and teachers alike. They can be notoriously difficult to both learn and teach but are also crucial to students’ work with proportional reasoning that begins in 6th grade. We often teach fractions as referencing part of a whole\, but did you know that there are actually five different interpretations of fractions? Yes\, the part-whole interpretation of fractions is considered fundamental for developing an understanding of fraction concepts. However\, research has shown that when students rely on this one interpretation their ability to generalize and to work with fraction concepts is limited. Therefore\, addressing the other interpretations is important to develop a deep understanding of fractions. In this workshop\, we will make meaning of all five interpretations of fractions.
